HOW SUNRISE IS HELPING WITH ENVIRONMENT ISSUES

A successful careers conference was arranged in Cheltenham in 2010 for over 300 school students
in Gloucestershire and was awarded the
Rotary accolade of "Overall Winner of The RIBI Environment Award for 2011"

This conference can be emulated in other areas and we are working towards encouraging other
Rotary Clubs to get involved in organising a conference in their own area.

The first areas where we see a need and have interest from the educational sector are the
Forest of Dean and Bristol.

So why should you get involved in organising a Green Careers Conference for your area?

It's part of our Community and Vocational committee's responsibility to support, encourage and
motivate school students. In the present climate, students are finding it difficult just to get
jobs rather than focus on a career of their choice The Green Economy is the fastest growing sector in the UK economy with more and more jobs being created.
Schools welcome this initiative since teachers do not have the contacts, finance or time to
develop such events on an individual school basis. It's a chance for all Rotary Clubs in the area to
work together for a common cause
